Trillium Henbit

A member of the mint family, Henbit is an annual winter broadleaf commonly found throughout North America. Easily distinguishable thanks to its tubular, pinkish-purple flowers, it prefers open areas with ample sun exposure, allowing it to grow dense mats. Commonly confused for Purple Deadnettle, Henbit’s half-circle-shaped leaves distinguish it from Deadnettle’s heart-shaped features. Henbit’s name is derived from its appeal to chickens. The edible weed’s nectar is also appealing to hummingbirds and plays a key role in early season pollen production for honeybees.
