Wine Description
In 1980 Bassett and Marcella Brown purchased an abandoned ranch in the Napa Valley. They painstakingly restored the home on the property and, being in Napa and all, planted some grapes. For a long time they sold their grapes to local winemakers– until 1995, that is– when the “kids,” Deneen, David, and Coral, decided to make their own wines from the family’s grapes. The first vintage of Brown Estate wines was harvested in 2016, and it hit the tasting circuit in 2000. Over 20 years later, Brown Estate is one of the most well-respected wineries in Napa, and one of only a very few African American owned-and-operated wineries in the Napa Valley, and in the U.S. more broadly.
