About the brewery

Our locally produced hard ciders boast fresh and crisp flavor profiles because (unlike the big cider brands) we use 100% American apples from Mid-Atlantic orchards—the birthplace of many of America’s most beloved apple varieties.

Instead of ordering foreign apple concentrate from overseas, we’ve taken the time to find and support small-scale family owned orchards just a short drive away from our cidery. The apple varieties from these farms produce far more flavorful cider and allow us to spend our money on useful things like strengthening our regional economy and keeping American farmland from being taken over by McMansions (and other unsightly threats to contemporary farming).

With the launch of Ironbound Hard Cider, not only are we supporting our local farmers, creating well-paying jobs, and making damn good cider, we’re taking it back to Newark where the most historically celebrated ciders originally came from in this country. Yes, Newark!

George Washington once called Newark cider the “champagne of ciders” thanks to its key ingredient—the famed Harrison apple. After much investigation and the help of an “apple detective”, we’ve learned about the rich heritage of Harrison trees in the state of New Jersey.

By developing partnerships with neighboring farms and planting over 6,000 Harrison Apple trees on our 108-acre farm in Hunterdon County, we hope to reestablish the Harrison’s place in history and allow Newark to take true ownership of this symbolic apple.
