Beer Description

We wanted to take a brand new approach to a “Coffee Pilsner” and our Cellar Manager Jorge thought a Cuban Coffee focus could be just the ticket! So we started with a 100% riverbend malt base of Chesapeake Pilsner and a dash of Chit Malt. We then took a restrained approach to the water profile, and dosed in UK Fuggles throughout the boil and Whirlpool for an herbal, grassy, and restrained presence. We then fermented it low and slow with our House Lager yeast, spunded that fermentation for the natural carbonation, and laid it down to rest in a Horizontal Lager Tank for many-a-moon.

Toward the end of cold conditioning, we house-processed a big batch of Cold Brew from the one-and-only Cafe Bustelo Cuban Coffee, and then selected a beautiful blend of cooperative coffee beans, both Gravity and Levity, for extra depth and complexity. The blend of extra-roasty Cold Brew and extra-fresh beans compliments the beer PERFECTLY, and we’re pretty darn hype on it. Jorge knocked it outta the park with this “English Summer Lager” meets “Coffee Pilsner”..

It’s something like walking through a field of Wildflowers with a fresh cup of Coffee in one hand, a freshly-steeped cup of English Bergamot tea in the other hand, and somewhere in the distance there’s a little old cottage baking up some fresh crumpets. Or something like that. And…of course…our classic Chippy Boi™ finish: crisp, clean, and crushable.
