Sand Creek Drewrys Classic Lager

A beer for the past that was resurrected in 2013, Drewrys is – and always has been – a Classic American Lager with a German accent. Boasting much more character than your standard macro-lager, Drewrys is eminently drinkable, with just enough of a hop note to balance the subtle sweetness of the malt and provide a clean, dry finish. Immediately upon pouring into the glass, you will notice Drewrys, with its golden amber hue, is a shade darker than you’d expect from a typical American light lager. The beer is moderately carbonated, and you can expect a substantial head with noticeable lacing.

This is a beer you can enjoy all afternoon, just like the old timers did. As a session beer, it is just as appropriate for watching the game as it is on the fishing boat. Once a major regional player on par with Stroh’s and Hamm’s, the Drewrys brand of beer was known by 2 distinctive trademarks, the Mountie and the “Big D”, and the Drewrys’ brewery once loomed over the near Northwest side of South Bend, IN, where it was once produced in quantity.

Brewery consolidation and acquisitions in the 60’s and 70’s led to fewer choices and cheaper, lower quality Lager. This is one of the reasons why high-gravity aggressively hopped beers are now being touted as the best.
